Thursday at Goodwood Festival of Speed 2018
The announcement of the event organizers sounded promising:
The opening day of the Festival of Speed 2018 will be bigger and better than ever before; including the very latest road cars on the Hill and also the chance to see racing content for the first time.
Hear ye, hear ye!
After our trip to Goodwood in 2017 we decided to visit the 25th edition of the Festival of Speed on Thursday, the opening day. Was it worth it? Yes, indeed!
We had a lot of fun out there and the entrance fee amounted less than 40 Euros. Of course the dynamic program was not as comprehensive as Friday to Sunday but anyway, we saw several highlights on the racetrack: Pre-war cars, historic Formula 1, rally machines as wells as brandnew street-fighters like Brabham BT62 and McLaren Senna.
Biggest advantage of our thursday-visit: The stately home around Goodwood house was not as crowded as on the weekend. It was a relaxed pleasure to stroll through several paddocks and get a close view to the exhibited cars. Where else do you have the chance to get face to face with Ferrari 250 GTO, Porsche 959 or Lancia Delta Integrale without fences? This is the unique spirit of Goodwood Festival of Speed.
Besides this, there were many other amenities: We found several good photo-positions alongside the racetrack, which were not overcrowded. It was quite easy to get a beer or a burger without a long wait and the traffic jam in the evening was negligible.
Visiting the Festival of Speed on Thursday was a good idea but we missed a bigger variety of cars on the racetrack. Especially the program in the morning was a bit boring with some unannounced changes. As a consequence, our next trip to Goodwood will last two days.
